You may recognise Debbie Goldsmith, a swim teacher who won the 2017 Aquatics Award at the YMCA Victoria 2017 Staff and Volunteer Awards night. Debbie has been teaching at Kew for over 15 years and she has gone above and beyond her teaching and Teaching in Charge (TIC) roles in a number of different ways.
At Kew we have a program called Dugongs, which is a group of special needs children and adults participating in swimming lessons. Debbie has been volunteering with Dugongs for 13 years, almost since the start of the program. Over the past year, Debbie has not only continued to volunteer, but also helped to inspire, train and mentor new volunteers, some of whom are students who she taught to swim.
Debbie has not only done exceptional work with the students and volunteers she works with, but she has also helped to mentor and develop new staff who have come on board as swimming teachers at Kew. She is a fantastic teacher and has made a significant difference in the lives of her students. Thanks to her, they can be confident around water, enjoy swimming with family and friends. Thank you Debbie!
